My name is D Wang Zhao,
or if you read Chinese, 赵梦仪。
As a non-normative fashion designer and creative, I am interested in how historically elitist and oppressive spaces (see: the fashion industry, graphic design) can actually be tools for lifting up marginalized identities and people.
I am also a recent graduate of the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design, having received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).
My most recent project, The Gender-Variant Jacket, is a tunable garment for gender-variant folx (including but not limited to transgender, agender, gender non-conforming, gender nonbinary, gender fluid folx) that allows for different presentations based on the silhouette of the garment.
When I'm not dreaming up radical ways to disrupt the fashion industry, I enjoy eating dried mangoes and journaling.
I am gender non-binary, so when referring to me, use they/them/their pronouns.
